Delhi out in full force with a healing touch
Nothing can dampen the spirit of Delhiites. Even as the city strived to come to terms with Saturday’s blasts, good Samaritan stories flew in thick and fast. From hospitals which could not handle the inflow of blood donors and were forced to return many, to traders who did their own bit of community policing, it was clear that this was a city which had learnt to survive the odds. At RML Hospital, many people had come after hearing news of the huge number of victims. ‘‘I reached here on Saturday evening. Since then, people have been coming in, enquiring about their relatives and others to receive the bodies of their loved ones. Many of them had no conveyance. So, we transported the bodies for post mortem and then to the cremation grounds,’’ said Trilok Singh, a volunteer from Sant Kabir Sewa. At Gaffar Market, a restaurant owner, Gurmeet Singh, was among the people who transported people to hospitals immediately after the blasts. ‘‘When I heard the sound of the blast, I came here running only to find several bodies strewn around. We took our cars and rickshaws to take the victims to hospitals and made at least 10 trips,’’ he said.
