Shanti- Come what may?
Shanti was living in the resettlement colony at Metro Vihar. She was illiterate and, not knowing her legal rights, she was constantly harassed by her in-laws for bringing insufficient dowry at the time of her marriage. Things had come to such a state that her husband and mother-in-law were beating her everyday.
Shanti came to know about CSI?s Mahila Panchayats and the legal literacy workshops. She enrolled herself for one such workshop. This made her aware and conscious of her rights, and about the Crime against Women Cell. She approached the cell and lodged a complaint against her husband and mother-in-law. The Cell summoned her tormentors, and counselled them to behave properly with Shanti.
Today, Shanti is no longer a weakling and she does not take any harassment lying down. Nowadays, she is even motivating other exploited women to fight for their rights. Having acquired awareness about her legal rights, Shanti is now an alert individual full of self-confidence.
