Commercialising Ravana

After lord Ganesha & Laughing buddha Ravan has been most commercialised in India, specially on festive occasions, while Demand of Lard Ganesha & laughing Buddha is round the year, Ravana makes most revenue during Dusherra, unfortunately none of three exists to collect revenues generated.

Like last several decades effigy makers in Titarpur, near Tagore Garden, are busy these days giving finishing touches to the effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkarana. As the d-day is fast approaching, these effigy makers are working 24x7 to finish their work in time."We know that our days of hard work would finally end up in smoke, but the satisfaction of seeing these demons meeting with their ghastly fate cannot be described in words," says Naresh Kumar, one of the effigy makers. He is in this profession for the last thirty five years and now it has become his family profession with as many as nine members of the family involved in it. "I supervise the entire work and all other members of our team work in shifts, day and night for preparing colourful effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran." Though living in Nangloi for the last several decades, Tagore Garden has been his work place and today this West Delhi colony has emerged as the largest market for Dussehra putlas!
