Smoking banned, more vigilance against drunken driving, and rave parties under the scanner – young partygoers in Delhi are having to look over their shoulders when going out these daysWhile drunken driving has been a punishable offence for a long time now, recent developments have caused the cops to pull up their socks and pull out their breath analysers. An increasingly strict campaign against it in Mumbai, and the conviction of Sanjeev Nanda, in spite of his powerful family connections, are some of them. Says joint commissioner of police, SN Srivastava, “The number of people booked for drunken driving in Delhi has increased by 85 per cent from last year, to 6000 till 31st September this year. We are absolutely ruthless now.”
