IITF can serve the people better

The 28th India International Trade Fair (IITF) was inaugurated in New Delhi on November 14, 2008, by Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari. IITF is an annual feature and this 14-day event has been attracting large crowds from all over the country .THE AUTHORITIES should increase the duration of IITF to at least 30 days from the present 14 days. The timings should also be changed by keeping the fair open from 8 am till midnight. This will help cope with the ever-increasing rush at the fair. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) can also be requested to increase the frequency of its railway system. The fair has been held for the past 28 years without a break. However, all these years, there has been no improvement in temporal and spatial terms, as said earlier. The fair has been held on the same premises with no addition to floor space. The fair is on only for two weeks and is open to visitors only for ten hours a day. Most of these ten hours are earmarked for the business community. Other or general visitors are not allowed most of the time. This is inconsistent with the steep increase in population and the steep increase in the number of visitors who have been making it to the fair for the last three decades. Increasing the duration of the fair and increasing the visiting hours will reduce the rush and allow more people to enjoy the fair and benefit from it. The authorities should shift the venue of the fair to some other centrally-located city. It will benefit people from all over the country and spare the national capital of traffic-jam.
