Delhi Trade Fair

The most awaited fair of the year is back. Though just a day old, the fair is already generating a lot of interest among shopaholic Delhiites. Delhi finds out what all is special this time around in the trade fair

If you wish to attend the ongoing 28th India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan, try to reach the venue anytime before 6 in the evening so that you are done with visiting the stalls and shopping maximum by 8. This is how the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) ideally wants the visitors to come to the most awaited fair of the year in Delhi. To manage the crowds extensive arrangements have been done. "For security measures, around 75 close circuit television cameras (CCTV) have been put up at the fair. Plain clothes policemen will be doing the rounds at all times. There will be fire guards at each hall and three fire tenders will be stationed throughout the fair," informed Safdar H Khan, senior general manager, security, ITPO. One major attraction in last year’s fair, the touch screens will make their comeback this year as well. And these will come up in Hall nos 8, 9, 10 and 11. This year Delhi Traffic Police will install CCTVs at Bhairon Road and Mathura Road for better monitoring of traffic during the fair. However those who wish to come in their four wheelers will have to shell out Rs 75 for six hours for parking. Anyone caught smoking will be fined. Also at the time of frisking at all the entry points, people will be instructed not to take cigarettes and tobacco pouches/products inside. Chairman and Managing Director of ITPO, Sheela Bhide shared, "We are taking care that this time around freshly painted premises are saved from the spitting menace."
